please let me know how you are doing. My mother was diagnosed w/ stage 4 on 9/2006. Since then she has had 2 recurrences. Has responded well to chemo each time but only goes into “remission” for about 1 yr and then it comes back again.
Please update me w/ how you are feeling and what type of treatment you are receiving.

I AM A MOM. MY DAUGHTER DAWN, AT AGE 53 DIED FROM OC. SHE HAD GONE IN FOR FIBROID REMOVAL SURGERY IN 2001 0R 2002 AND THEY FOUND A TUMOR WITH ONLY AN INSIGNIFICANTLY SMALL AMOUNT OF CANCER ATTACHED TO THE PELVIC WALL. THEY REMOVED EVERYTHING AND SHE STARTED CHEMO. SHE WAS NEVER DOWN OR SICK OR DISCOURAGED. A YEAR AND A HALF LATER IT CAME BACK. (CA 125 WAS UP) SURGERY AGAIN AND CHEMO, ALL BEING TREATED AT KAISER PERMANENTE, SACRAMENTO. ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF LATER IT CAME BACK. A SMALL TUMORON THE LIVER. A PROCEDURE FOR GOING IN THE VEIN OF HER LEG AND HITTING THE TUMOR (RADIO FREQUENCY) THINGEE WORKED. SHE WAS TOLD SHE WOULD BE REALLY ILL AND FLU LIKE, SO I TRAVELED AGAIN TO CALIF. TO BE WITH HER. SHE SEEMED AS ALWAYS, PERKY AND WORKING EVERY DAY AND THOUGH SHE LOST HER HAIR SEVERAL TIMES AND MUST HAVE FELT DARN SICK, WE NEVER HEARD A PEEP. SHE TRAVELLED OVERSEAS WITH FAMILY MEMBERS, VACATIONED IN MEXICO AND HAWAII WITH HER HUSBAND, AND ALWAYS LOOKED RADIANT AND FULL OF LIFE. THE POINT OF THE STORY IS THIS: SHE LIVED LIFE TO THE FULLEST AND RESEARCHED AND STUDIED ALL THE WAYS TO FIGHT THIS CANCER WITH DIET AND EXERICISE AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE. SHE WAS ALWAYS HEALTHY AND SEEMED TO EVEN MORE SO. THE CANCER CAME BACK ON THE LIVER AGAIN. CHEMO AND MORE CHEMO TO CONTAIN AND HOPEFULLY SHRINK THE TUMOR TO A SMALL SIZE IN ORDER TO BLAST IT. SURGERY WAS NOT AN OPTION AT THIS POINT. THEY FOUND A COUPLE OF SUSPICIOUS LOOKING SMALL SPOTS ON HER LUNGS. BUT THE CA125 WAS LOW, AND SHE WAS FULLY FUNCTIONING, AND WORKING. OVER A YEAR AGO, IN MARCH OF 2011, SHE AND HER HUSBAND WENT TO HAWAII AGAIN. SHE LOVED THE WATER AND HIKING AND ENJOYED EVERYTHING. AT EASTER TIME 2011, SHE STARTED GETTING EDEMA, AND IT WAS NOT CONTROLLED. IT GOT WORSE. SOMETIME IN JUNE HER ONCOLOGIST AT KAISER TELEPHONED AND TOLD HER AFTER 11 DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHEMO, THERE WERE NO MORE OPTIONS. START THINKING ABOUT HOSPICE….EVEN THEN, I WAS FULL OF HOPE THAT SHE WOULD NEVER DIE. IT WAS 9 YEARS!!!! ON JULY 7TH WE TRAVELLED TO SACRAMENTO FOR A VISIT. HE WAS HUGE FROM THE WAIST DOWN, FULL OF FLUID. SHE WAS SKINNY FROM THE WAIST UP AND NO STRENGTH. SHE WAS IN A HOSPITAL BED IN HER LIVING ROOM AND COULD BARELY WALK TO THE TOILET AND THE SHOWER. BUT SHE LOVED THE SHOWER……IT BECAME HER FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD…HER WORDS. SHE WOULD SIT ON THE SHOWER SEAT AND USE TO SHOWER HEAD ON THE HOSE AND JUST RUN THE WATER ALL OVER. I WOULD ASSIST HER IN ALL OF HER TOILETTE AND MAKE MEALS AND COMPANY WOULD COME OVER, AND SHE PUT ON MAKE UP AND NEVER COMPLAIN. THE DOCTOR HAD PUT HER ON A BLOOD THINNER AGES AGO, AS SHE HAD A BLOOD CLOT. SHE NEEDED A PORT IN HER TUMMY TO RAIN OFF THE FLUID. BUT IT WAS DELAYED BECAUSE OF THE BLOOD THINNER. FINALLY A PORT WAS PUT IN AT KAISER AND SOME OF THE FLUID WAS REMOVED…THEN AT HOME WITH THE HOSPICE NURSE, MORE WAS DRAINED OFF. SHE WAS A BIT MORE COMFORTABLE. BUT GETTING WEAKER, AND HER ARMS LOOKED LIKE THE ARMS OF A CONCENTRATION CAMP SURVIVOR. THIS STRONG AND ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WAS DETERIORATING. THE REALITY OF HER DYING STILL DID NOT OCCUR TO ME, ON FRIDAY JULY 15, 3 DAYS AFTER THE PORT WAS INSTALLED, THE NURSE TOOK ME ASIDE, WITH HER HUSBAND PRESENT AND SAID 24 TO 48 HOURS. I DENIED THAT TO MYSELF, AS SHE WAS SUCH A FIGHTER. ON THAT SATURDAY, THE 16TH, SHE SAID TO ME TO GO BACK TO NORTH CAROLINA AND BE WITH DADDY BILL. HE HAD BEEN ON THE SAME VISIT WITH ME BUT COULD ONLY STAY A WEEK. I FOLLOWED HER INSTRUCTIONS. ON SUNDAY, THE 17TH OF JULY 2011 SHE PASSED FROM THIS LIFE ON EARTH……9 YEARS…..SHE BEAT THE ODDS, BUT SHE DIDN’T BEAT THIS DESPICABLE DISEASE. I WAS WITH DADDY BILL IN CHURCH WHEN THAT HAPPENED. HER BROTHER AND HER HUSBAND AND HER 2 KITTENS WERE ON HER BED WITH HER THAT SUNDAY MORNING. WHE HAD PLANNED HER OWN MEMORIAL SERVICE, AND THE WHOLE FAMILY WAS THERE FOR THAT 6 DAYS LATER ON THE 23RD. TODAY IS THE 26TH DAY OF JULY 2012. I WILL NEVER FORGET HER…..SO BRAVE, SO COURAGEOUS, SO BOSSY, SO EVERYTHING! HER NAME IS DAWN RENEE’ BARNHISEL AND HER STORY AND A TRIBUTE WRITTEN BY HER FAMILY, PLUS HER EULOGY IS ON THE WALL OF OCRF. SHE LOVED DRAGONFLIES AND FLOWERS AND HIKING AND FOOD AND IF YOU GO TO HER PAGE, YOU WILL SEE HER PHOTO…..TAKEN ABOUT 6 YEARS BEFORE SHE DIED. ONE OF THE PERIODS OF HER REMISSIONS. I STILL CANNOT GET MY HEAD AROUND THIS, SHE WAS MY FIRST BORN BABY GIRL. I HAVE READ MANY OF THE POSTS ON THIS SITE AND I BELIEVE THE ONE BY REGINA HORTON ON 9/29/2011 COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY DAWN….SHE WAS A SURVIVOR FOR 9 YEARS.

SO SORRY THE POST WAS SO LONG.
LINDA MUIR – 07/27/2012
My husband has been going on for mhonts that he saw this coming and it was going to get “really bad”. I poo poo’ed the whole thing and thought “yeah ok, whatever, he’s just trying to get me to stop shopping so much”. Not so much anymore, I agree, things are really getting scary! I think most people in our generation think that the Great Depression was something in the past that could never happen again, but I am starting to wonder with everything happening these days…..yikes.
