Chemo on Friday…Triathlon Sunday! Mary Anne inspired so many people to join the fight against ovarian cancer by donating $ to research. In the 5+ years of her battle, she and her team of family and friends raised over $200,000! Her hope and dream was to find a cure for this disease.
When Mary Anne was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February 2004, she scoured the internet seeking information and mostly hope. She found ocrf.org and discovered they were having the first triathlon event in Federal Way, WA (south of Seattle) to raise $ for research in September. The event date was only 2 months after completing her first round of chemotherapy. It gave her hope. It gave her the possibility to see herself as a triathlete with purpose vs. a victim of cancer. That first year, she and her team raised over $7000! From there, her fundraising efforts continued skyward. Mary Anne leaves behind a husband, 2 young sons, many loving friends and family and a legacy of hope.
