High Volume Hospitals and Providers Improve Survival

(December 20, 2013)  Researchers have found that for women with advanced-stage ovarian cancer, being treated at a high volume hospital with a high volume provider, leads to improved survival.  The research was published online today in Gynecologic Oncology.

Among patients with advanced-stage ovarian cancer, the provider combination of high volume hospital/high volume provider is an independent predictor of improved disease-specific survival.  However, access to high-volume ovarian cancer providers is limited and barriers are more pronounced for patients with low socioeconomic status, Medicaid insurance, and racial minorities.
