OCRF & Ovarian Cancer National Alliance are now one strong, united, inspiring voice!
Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) and the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA) have led the way in advocacy, research and support for patients and their families for over 22 years. As of January 2016, we are pleased to announce we are joining together to form Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OCRFA), the largest global organization dedicated to advancing ovarian cancer research while supporting women and their families. 2000 Individual Investigator Grant Recipient – Gary Yiu

Gary Yiu, Ph.D.
Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Molecular Classification of Epithelial Ovarian Tumors

Project Summary

The majority of ovarian cancers are carcinomas of the surface epithelial type, appearing on the cell layer that covers the ovary. Dr. Yiu will use cutting edge technology of laser capture microdissection (LCM) and high throughput cDNA microarray analysis, in which the expression of thousands of known and unknown genes in normal and malignant ovarian epithelial cells will be simultaneously compared. The gene expression profile generated from each tumor will also be used to correlate clinical data such as histopathology, chemo responsiveness, and prognosis. The study will provide predictors about the biological behavior of the tumor as to whether it is more likely to recur, progress to a more malignant type, or are resistant to routine chemotherapy.
